Did you hear that Google and Wal-Mart are partnering on retail? It's kind of a big deal. Check out the pilot episode of Bright Ideas in Branding for the real stroke of genius behind this partnership. It may not be what you think!
Hi everyone welcome to Bright Ideas in Branding. I'm Josh Braaten the cofounder and CEO of Brandish Insights. Welcome to our first episode.
So anyway this show is about spotting things that we think are cool in the world of branding and sharing them with you and seeing what you think about them. And that's pretty much it. Short shows, weekly shows they're going to be fun. So let's read it. All right.
So this week we have Wal-Mart and Google. We have a story talking about how they have partnered and joined forces to get a voice assisted commerce partnership in place. And so let's talk about what that means. So first of all Amazon is the dominant force right now with their Echo service and Alexa. You can just say, "Order me this order me that." And you've got something coming along way.
Google and Wal-Mart others are kind of lagging behind. And instead of building out these important pieces of infrastructure they're just going to borrow the bits of things that they don't have from each other. So let's look at how that works so if you go down you'll see that you can simply place an order by saying send me this by using Google home device. And then also being able to link your Wal-Mart accounts to that to Google to receive personalized shop results based on online and in-store purchases.
Now in-store purchases is another thing to think about here. If Google and Wal-Mart both have your wallet and your location and all of your online behavior they can sew those things together then they're going to have a much more complete picture of your online identity.
Very cool but also kind of scary. You've got big brother and bigger brother. I don't know which one's which. But now they're joining forces and this is going to be huge. Probably really cool from a commerce perspective but again kind of scary. I don't know.
What do you think about it? More cool with scary more scary than call. You tell me.
That's all we've got for this week on Friday is branding. Tune in next week same time same brand channel. I'm Josh from Brandish Insights.
